For the upcoming NFL season (yes, I know it has already started), I'm going to be picking the Cowboys games, both against the spread and the total. I am going to use the lines I see on Bovada at the time I'm making the wagers. I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan, but I try to be realistic as well. There may be other picks made as well, depending on when I make my picks. I will also keep a running total of how I've done this year, although it's just for fun, not for any real wager.
For the record as well, I see Dallas going 10-6 for the season, winning their division and earning a #3 seed in the NFC. They will win 1 game in the playoffs, and then make an early exit in the divisional round, likely to Green Bay again.
Disclaimer: Don't use my picks to wager real money on, I won't be held responsible for your losses!!
New York Giants @ Dallas (-7)
I like the Cowboys in their home opener. When the A T & T stadium opened, the Giants won the first game ever played, and the next 3 games at Dallas as well. Since then, and overall, Dallas has won 4 straight over the Giants, by an average of 5 points. The line is a little higher than I'd like, but I have to take the Cowboys in the season/home opener this year.
I also like the over, at a line of 53. The 2 teams typically combine for a lot of points, and especially in the first game of the season, I see a high-scoring game.
Minnesota (-2) at San Francisco
I like the Vikings. They're a young team, and they were making some improvements near the end of last season. The 49ers, conversely, are a wreck. They have a new coaching staff, and and their QB, Colin Kaepernick, definitely had a worse year last year. They are relying on Carlos Hyde at RB, who is unproven and heading into his first year as a starter. They did improve at WR with the signing of Torrey Smith, but it won't be enough.
Official picks:
Dallas -7
Dallas/NY over 53
Minnesota -2
Edited to change the 49er's new WR to Torrey Smith. Anquan Boldin has been with the team for a few years. Thanks to Coach for catching that mistake!!
0-2-1 After week 1. Rough start, but it can only go up from here!
