With the MLB
season and NHL Stanley Cup playoffs nearly upon us, I thought this would be a good time to review and post
my futures wagers. Some of these WS wagers were
teams favored to win the World Series, some were based on a little research and
potential, and some are just wishful thinking (like my Cubs wager). I have multiple tickets on some teams as I
have gotten these tickets on each of my trips in December, Super Bowl weekend,
and again in March. I also placed some
wagers on win totals for various teams.
Again, these were based somewhat on moves made by teams in the
offseason, or lack thereof, as well as putting a little on my Cubs to go over
their projected win total (wishful thinking but also a definite possibility
this year). The Stanley Cup wagers were based on likely playoff teams, using the standings during my trip in March. Also included are tickets on 4 teams that I got in October; those were 1 each on Chicago and Anaheim, and the tickets on Pittsburgh and Boston.
World Series
Wagers:
Dodgers:
3 tickets; 1
for 3 units @ 6/1, 2 for 1 unit, each @ 6/1.
Nationals:
3 tickets; 1
for 3 units @ 5/1, 1 for 1 unit @6/1, 1
for 1 unit @ 8/1.
Tigers:
3 tickets;
Each 1 unit, @ 8/1, 10/1, and 18/1.
Angels:
3 tickets; 1 for 2 units @ 10/1, 2 for 1 unit
each, @ 8/1 & 10/1.
Cardinals:
(this just makes me feel dirty, although they have fared well in recent
history)
2 tickets; 2
units each, @ 10/1 & 12/1.
Red Sox:
3 tickets; 1
for 3 units @ 10/1, 1 for 2 units @ 12/1, 1 for 1 unit @22/1.
Giants:
2 tickets; 1
for 1 unit @ 12/1, and 1 for 2 units @ 15/1.
Mariners:
1 ticket; 2
units @ 12/1.
Royals: (in
case of a repeat of last year)
3 tickets; 1
unit each @ 12/1, 15/1, & 20/1.
Orioles:
1 ticket; 1
unit @ 18/1.
Blue Jays:
2 tickets; 1
unit each @ 20/1 & 28/1.
Indians:
1 ticket; 1
unit @ 20/1.
Yankees:
1 ticket; 1
unit @ 20/1.
A’s:
2 tickets; 1
unit each, both @ 22/1.
Pirates:
2 tickets; 1
unit each, @ 22/1 & 25/1.
Cubs: (got
it in Nov., after the signing of Joe Maddon but before the hype and Lester
signing)
1 ticket; 1
unit @ 25/1.
Brewers:
1 ticket; 1
unit @ 35/1.
I realize
that I have a lot invested in a situation where only one team will be a winner,
but this gives me rooting interest in many teams to win it all. With any luck, I will have some extra
spending money to take to Vegas this fall and can use it to place some NFL
wagers! Of course, last year I had bets
on 6 of the 10 MLB playoff teams, including the Royals, but unfortunately,
nothing on the Giants….who of course won game 7 and the World Series.
Win total
wagers:
Royals Over
80.5, 1 unit, -115.
Cubs Over
83, 1 unit, -115.
Pirates Over
85.5, 2 units, -115.
Mariners
Over 87.5, 2 units, -115.
Blue Jays
Over 83.5, 2 units, -120.
Nationals
Over 94, 2 units, -115.
Brewers
Under 78.5, 2 units, -115.
Rays Under
79, 2 units, -115.
Diamondbacks
Under 71.5, 2 units, -115.
Reds Under
78, 2 units, -115.
Braves Under
74.5, 2 units, -115.
Rangers
Under 79, 2 units, -115.
I know
there’s a bit of a contradiction with a Brewers World Series wager and then an
under on the win totals. The win totals
were placed in March, with more information, while the Brewers WS wager was
placed in December, based mainly on a potential repeat of last year. It seems that Chicago, Pittsburgh, and St.
Louis all improved enough that I doubt Milwaukee will even be a .500 team, let
alone make the playoffs. Stranger things
have happened, so we shall see. I don’t
expect to win every win total wager, but at least I have a little more rooting
interest and hopefully some extra spending money for a trip to Vegas in the
fall!
I thought I’d
go ahead and throw in my NHL Stanley Cup future wagers as well:
Chicago:
2 tickets; 2
units @ +160, 4 units @ +350
Nashville:
1 ticket; 3
units @ 8/1
Boston:
1 ticket; 2
units @ 8/1
Pittsburgh:
1 ticket; 2
units @ 8/1
Anaheim:
2 tickets; 1
for 4 units @ 8/1, 1 for 2 units @ 10/1
NY
Islanders:
1 ticket; 2
units @ 10/1
Montreal:
1 ticket; 2
units @ 10/1
NY Rangers:
1 ticket; 3
units @ 10/1
Tampa Bay:
1 ticket; 2 units @ 12/1
I guess we'll know about the baseball season in a month or so. It pains me to say it, but I just get the feeling the Blackhawks will come up a little short this year. I can't see an Eastern team winning, though.
ReplyDeleteNo love for my White Sox? They made great roster moves in winter. I predict they will make the playoffs in what is becoming the best division in baseball.
I really like Anaheim, although you can never really count the Blackhawks out, especially if they get Kane back sooner rather than later.
DeleteAs far as the White Sox, I expect them to be improved for sure. However, they have 3 other teams to contend with in that division, and I think they fall short of the playoffs, winning 85-86 games.
WOW!! alot of WS predictions. i took the As/Reds. also i got the Dodgers not to go to postseason 14-1.Padres r an interesting team too. i think u got GREAT odds on the Cubs,i saw on Espn the CUBS r 6-1 that just cray cray.for the NHL i had my Sharks like WTF happen. plus later i took the Islanders and Canadians to win their division (1 pt head of the Lightning, habs have lost 2 str8 too thou). no NBA futures??? i took Rockets then Spurs. i like yr O/U wins hopefully they hedge all of yr WS/Stanley Cup picks, brother
ReplyDeleteNo NBA futures, not a big fan and don't know the teams well enough. The Cubs ticket I got lucky on the timing, it was purchased before they signed Lester and everyone got dumb betting on them until the books had to drastically adjust their odds.
DeleteShould be exciting watching the NHL playoffs and MLB season play out!
also i added Padres 10-1 bcuz of trade news
DeleteIs it possible for there to be a World Series where you don't have both teams? :) I asked PPP about his MLB bets yesterday (felt bad that your post wasn't up yet). Now I see that I would have had to bet on everyone... :P
ReplyDeleteLast year I had wagers on 6 of the 10 MLB playoff teams, including Kansas City....unfortunately, San Francisco was one of the 4 I didn't have any wagers on...
DeleteAm I reading this wrong, or did you wager far more than you can win on the WS bets?
ReplyDeleteI realize I won't come out ahead at this point regardless of the outcome...that said, I have a good chance at hitting something and hopefully will get out again in September before the playoffs start and can add some to this in order to try to increase my potential payout. Plus anything invested in a sunken cost budgeted into each trip, and anything won is just put towards a future trip.
DeleteI am more concerned about coming out ahead in my win total wagers.
