Super Bowl Weekend in Vegas Part 1

This year, I crossed an item off my bucket list by spending Super Bowl weekend in Las Vegas.  This was both good and bad.  The good:  I had a great time, I placed a lot of bets, I finished with a profit on the game, and crossed this item off my bucket list.  The bad:  I can't imagine watching the Super Bowl anywhere but Vegas in the future...

Friday night:  I get a text message saying the flight has been delayed 30 minutes.  However, my wife and I opt to get to the airport at the time we would for an on-time flight just to be safe.  This leads to plenty of time sitting in the airport, as the flight ends up being an hour late.  Typical for Allegiant anymore.  I still love the non-stop flights and the low prices, but having a delay at least once per trip is getting old.  We land in Vegas, make our way to baggage claim, grab our suitcase and make our way to the taxi line.  While we arrived late, there was still a nice long line.  However, there were plenty of cabs, and after a short wait as the line moved steadily, we were in a taxi on our way to Bally's.

We got to Bally's, and got checked in.  We made our way downstairs, and my wife went to play some slots.  She's not a table games player, and definitely not a poker player.  She doesn't win much, but she's happy and it keeps her entertained while I play poker.  I went to meet Rob and Chris, who were already at the poker tables.  I find an empty seat, and a short time later Rob is moved to my table.  Not long after that, a seat opens up for Chris, and we begin talking, teasing each other, and playing cards.  Several topics were discussed, including other bloggers, twitter pals, and TBC, of course.  Chris tweeted out that we were all playing together at Bally's.  This drew a response from Lightning36, who loves playing at Bally's.  He tweeted at the 3 of us: "Playing @BLVPOKER without me? I HATE YOU ALL!"  The session was a rough one for me.  I don't recall a lot of spectacular hands, I couldn't get a lot going and missed the draws I had.  I bought in for $100, $100, and $200, and lost it all by the time I left and went to my room.  1 hand I remember, I had Kc10c, flopped a K with a flush draw, turn was an A, river was a blank, and I had check called both the flop and the turn.  This time I checked again, and Chris fired a 3rd bet.  I couldn't see him trying to push me off the hand, and figured he'd hit the A.  I fold, and he shows 7c4c for a missed flush draw and no pair.  A**H*LE....lol  I also got KK at one point, and Rob raised preflop before it got to me.  I re-raised, he looked at me with a look that said "did you REALLY get Kings against me again?" and folded.  No one else had called, and I showed my hand, just to show Rob that I am STILL the King of Pocket Kings!  I head to my room around 4am, and slept for a few hours.  For whatever reason, I don't sleep long while in Vegas.  Partly due to messing up my sleep habits, and partly due to the fact that I can't get back to sleep once I wake up.  Too excited about all that there is to do in Las Vegas I imagine.

Saturday morning, we had room service breakfast.  After that, we headed down to the Sportsbook at Bally's, which wouldn't be the only sportsbook I stopped at.  I cashed in some tickets from the win total bets I had made, as well as a moneyline bet on Dallas at Philly I had placed on my last trip to Vegas.  I used them to place a few futures wagers on next year's Super Bowl, taking Seattle, New England, Indy, Dallas, and Green Bay.  After waiting in line for 10 minutes or so, I placed my wagers and we were off to the monorail.  I really like the monorail and use it often on my trips to Vegas.  We were off to the Westgate, formerly the Las Vegas Hilton.  I had printed off the list of prop bets that had been published online and reviewed it before getting into town, and had a vast array of wagers I was interested in.  I picked up a packet of the official wagers and corresponding #'s, and worked on on a list of the wagers I wanted.  I ended up with around 115 wagers, and $1430 wagered, including a few wagers made Super Bowl morning at Paris, as well as at the Westgate before the party we attended.  Between the time it took at Bally's and the Westgate, we had spent most of the early afternoon getting prop bets placed.  We headed back to Bally's to drop off my sports bets and figure out what to do the rest of the afternoon/evening.  I had texted Chris earlier to see if he wanted to have dinner with us, and we settled on dinner at Toby Keith's at Harrahs.  Chris had just sat down at the poker tables at Harrah's when we got there.  There was a bit of a wait, so we put our names on the list, and I texted Chris that he had a few minutes before we would have a table.  Shortly after that, they called our name for a table, and my wife and I sat down.  Chris joined us, and we had a great dinner, talking and laughing.  Chris was enjoying the outfits of the waitresses, and we also got to see security "glove up" and escort a drunk guy out of the restaurant.  Surprisingly, this was a first for me in Vegas, I hadn't seen security escort someone out of a place until then.  After dinner, we decided to meet up with Rob at MGM.  The events of that night, as well as the Super Bowl party and results of my wagers will all be included in part 2...

    1. Yeah, along with the phrase "dreaded pocket Kings" I should have trademarked putting pics of hot chicks on my blog!

Coach, I haven't written about that session yet so.....but actually, I probably won't write it up because I didn't play very long and I was so freaking tired that I barely remember it. Plus I lost and there were no memorable hands, other than my folding AA to Nick's KK.

  3. I remember that hand....I actually had Aces. I figured you had Kings and you being the KoPK, just assumed you'd hit your set against me.

What was the price range of that Toby Keith place at Harrah's? What kind of food and how was it? Maybe I should add it to my list of "possibles" when I'm in that neighborhood.

My option there is usually KGB Burger which also has waitresses in scanty outfits.

    1. They have a decent variety, from steak to burgers to sandwiches/wraps, to salads. The price range isn't bad, the 3 of us ate for around $80 or so. They have a menu online, on the Harrah's website. They also have fried twinkies as a dessert option!

    2. The food tastes great, I've eaten there a few times and never been disappointed. However, I have never tried KGB, although I've heard great things about it.

  4. angerisagift has now moved on from boob pictures? Has he gotten religion or something?

Although I love reading about my friends' good times in Las Vegas, it sure is tough being back in the cold Midwest when you know they are out there having fun.

I haven't eaten at Toby Keith's yet but have been at KGB several times. I really like the burgers there.

  6. $100, $100, $200 . . . I'm glad you learned a thing or two about Martingaling NL Hold'em from Hero

  7. Rather than martingaling, it was more about trying something new after recent bad sessions at the tables. I figured while I was feeling out new players, having less at risk in case of bad decisions might help me a little. However, I think buying in for 100BB is better suited to my style, and I've been doing more of that recently.
