So, I missed out on my hope of making regular blog posts. Between working, school, other time-consuming issues and trying to find time to play poker, I haven't had a lot of time, nor a lot to blog about in all honesty.
School is still going well. I just finished another set of classes and while the grades aren't official yet, I know 1 of them will be an "A" and the other depends on the grade on my final project. I need 9 points out of 50 for a "B" and 35 points for an "A". I think I will get the "A" but we shall see. Assuming I am correct and get the "A" that will make 16 A's and 2 B's. Yes, I am somewhat of an overachiever.....actually, I've always done well in school when I've applied myself and for all the money I'm paying to get this Bachelor's Degree, I most certainly have done the best that I could. I have 8 classes remaining, and will be taking 4 during the next quarter, which starts the week of Aug. 19th. I will have 2 night classes and 2 online classes, and then 4 more classes, 2 each quarter before graduating in June of 2014. That will lead to 2 new concerns....student loan repayment and job searching. I am lucky/thankful that I have a job currently that pays my bills, even if I don't enjoy it that much. It will be a stretch adding in student loan repayment but I will make it work. Looking for a job will be a little more difficult....No experience and no time for an internship will certainly hurt, and I may have to take a pay cut to get started, but that will be well worth it in the long run.
Work is going as well as possible. I don't enjoy my job, my days off, and especially the fact that I can never enjoy holidays as other people can due to the business I'm in, but I understand that this is how I currently make a living and must deal with it. I was pleasantly surprised when our annual reviews came up, and my supervisor rewarded me with a maximum raise. Between the extra work I put in last year, and the fact that I worked with a different department for nearly half the year a few days a week, he was very satisfied with me overall. As much as I dislike my job now, I still do the best I can to be the best worker I can be.
Poker is also going well. I play Thursday nights with a group of guys at the local Eagles Club. I also play occasionally at the local casino, the Paradice Casino in East Peoria, IL. I haven't been there as much as I would like to lately, between a lack of time and extra money. Unfortunately, I don't see either one increasing in the short term future....I have a vacation week coming up, the 2nd week in September, and had hoped to head to Hammond, IN, to play at the Horseshoe, but I just don't see it happening. I had been considering a return trip to Las Vegas as well, the week after Thanksgiving, but again, very unlikely it happens.
That's all for now....Thanks for reading!!
