As I have mentioned before, I was laid off from my job in early February. I interviewed a week and a half ago at a local hospital for a payroll clerk position. A former classmate from college works there in the accounting department, and was able to put in a good word for me with the hiring manager. Also, another person in a different department that I know was able to put in a good word with him as well. The interview went well, and last week they requested references. This morning I received a phone call with an offer for the position. I accepted and will start in 2 weeks. They have new employee orientation every other Monday, and March 16th is the next one. I have to submit to a physical and drug screen, as well as submit vaccination records, and then I'm in! It's only been about 4 weeks since becoming jobless, but I must say it's been stressful up to this point. I'm glad it's over and I can join the workforce once again.
However, starting a new job means I don't know when I will be able to take a vacation again. First, I need to accumulate time off, and then I need to save up for travel. Unfortunately, I will be taking a slight pay cut with this position compared to my last job, and the last job also paid my medical insurance premiums, which isn't the case now. So my budget will be taking a bit of a hit. I do have enough in savings for a quick trip to Las Vegas before starting the new job, however, as long as I can get all of the pre-employment requirements out of the way this week. My physical is scheduled for Wednesday, so I should know then if I can get everything done this week and be free to fly out Sunday through Thursday. I checked and I can get free rooms at Bally's or the Flamingo, only needing to pay the stupid resort fee, and there are flights available. They're a little pricy due to being last minute, but having to pay less for the room will even it out. I'm hopeful that this can happen, but if not, I'm happy to at least have a job again!!
Thanks to everyone who offered me support and good thoughts this past month, I appreciate it very much.

ReplyDeleteNo, I never did hear back. I'm not sure why not but at least I found something!
DeleteCongrats! Glad to see that something came through so quickly. Get to Las Vegas while you can. The boat will always be here (sigh).
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm hoping to be able to get to Vegas, just depends on how my physical/drug screen/Vaccination report goes. I know I'm not up-to-date on certain vaccinations, and I'll have to get a few in order to be cleared for the job I imagine.
DeleteYes, the boat will always be here...but I'm thinking next time I head toward Joliet, I may get a room in Joliet but go play poker in Hammond. lol
Congratulations Coke!
